DMA is proud to have been the architect for this project which addresses so many needs for the Town of Jackson and Teton County. Originally conceived as just a storage and maintenance facility for the Parks & Rec Department’s vehicles and equipment, which were haphazardly scattered all over the county, the program enlarged in scope to make the most of the limited land available for municipal projects. Now this 28,657 square foot, four-story (including basement) multi-use facility provides an updated, modern Park’s division maintenance and operation facility along with office space for the Parks department’s administrative and programming staff.

Large vehicle storage is provided at the ground level and additional storage for smaller seasonal equipment is stored in the basement below which is accessed by a small vehicle lift. Space was also provided in the basement for other town and county departments for file storage, evidence lockers, etc. A critical component of the project is the inclusion of 26 employee housing units on site. The second floor has 9 one-bedroom units, while the third floor has 16 dorm-style fully furnished studio units that are intended for seasonal employees along with a shared kitchen, common area and laundry. There is also a bunkroom for town and county employees who live outside of Jackson who may on occasion need a place to stay overnight due to unforeseen circumstances such as adverse weather conditions or avalanches. One of the one-bedroom apartments and one of the studio units are ADA accessible while all of the remaining units are easily adaptable accessible units should the need arise.

This project is the only one of its kind in Jackson. It is an extremely complicated structure due to the mix of industrial, commercial and residential uses. DMA is gratified to have been involved in this community project which helps address many issues and concerns of the Parks and Rec Department, but also much needed Town and County employee housing for their essential workers. The housing portion of the project was partially funded by a voter approved 2017 Special Purpose Excise Tax (SPET).
