JH Fire/EMS Station 1 is located in the Town of Jackson, at 60 East Pearl Avenue, between South Cache and South King Streets.  The original Station 1 was constructed in 1964 and had undergone 3 different additions (1974, 1991, and 2004). Firefighters had long been advocating for a new downtown fire station and Dubbe Moulder Architects led the architecture and engineering team tasked with the design of a renovation and addition to the existing structure.  When construction commenced however, select demolition revealed that the building had not been built according to the original plans, and was missing structural steel and rebar to make it structurally sound.  The existing building required complete demolition and the entire project was re -designed for a razed site.  Though this unforeseen situation delayed the project, it allowed the architecture and engineering team to create an improved interior layout and increase the functionality of the interior spaces.

Now complete, the re-born structure fulfills an expanded program to satisfy current Fire / EMS operations, and community outreach. The building’s re-design includes a basement, keeps the existing first floor footprint, rebuilds the second floor, and accommodates a new two-story addition.  Fire/EMS Station 1 is now a code compliant structure with state-of-the-art exhaust systems and energy efficiency upgrades.  The building also includes training space and separate locker rooms for male and female firefighters, as well as three 1-bedroom employee housing units with access to a large communal kitchen and common area, seven staff sleeping units and a rooftop deck with solar panels.

The project was partially funded through a Specific Purpose Excise Tax (SPET) which was voted on by Town & County residents and paid for with Sales Tax funds.
