In this video, the presentation drawing is basically finished. There has been no color renderings made yet as this is usually the first time that a client will see the design in a plan and/or an elevation. Chris just wants to convey a very abstract thought.

A line drawing of the site plan is represented along with the first and second floor plan. Chris will use different grey markers as he intends this next step to be more of a black and white study on tracing paper. He wants to evoke an overall design direction, from both a plan and elevation standpoints, and how the plan sits on the site.

He applies a specific shade of grey to give depth to the walls. He also wants to express that the floors are different than the page around them and uses a lighter gray on it to punch the plan out. These greys are laid out on the back of the paper so that they appear muted on the front. Chris can also erase them as needed without affecting the line work. And when scanned and printed, the tints show through the paper just enough to add interest.

A black, thick line is placed at the base to ground the elevations. Gray is applied in the windows to punch them up, and add shadows on the walls. Chris finishes the set with labeling rooms and plans, adds a north arrow sticker to orient the plan and a title block with various information relevant to the project.
