HARRIS RESIDENCE

The Harris residence is one of our office favorites. Located within a prominent golfing subdivision, the lot has distant views to mountains and ski runs, and near views of a creek and the pines and aspen surrounding the golf course. The subdivision has an 18’ height restriction which almost dictates a ranch home.
The program for this home was all about the views and connecting the inhabitants to the outdoors. The center of the extruded floor plan includes an open great room with adjoining kitchen, dining and living room. To the left is the owners’ private area with office and master suite, while to the right is a walk through pantry/laundry room, a media room and two guest bedrooms that share a Jack and Jill bathroom. Throughout the home, expansive windows allow the occupants to experience the landscape while moving about inside. Exterior living space includes a covered dining area providing a protected entertaining area and a panorama of mountain views. Additional covered porches and a full sun patio make this a home designed for enjoying the environment in all seasons and kinds of weather. The partial 2nd floor consists of a double bunk room for the grandchildren with lots of floor area for play. A bathroom with red accents and a trough sink is perfect for the kids who can also access the hidden rooftop observation deck with views to both the Grand Teton to the west and Sleeping Indian to the east.
The interior of the home is clean and modern with white walls and natural wood flooring and trim that highlights the color and views framed by the windows. The wood tones and light gray counters combine to warm the white kitchen, keeping it from feeling sterile, and making it a cook’s dream with abundant counter space. It is a spacious kitchen with room for many cooks who can also visit with guests sitting at the raised counter or beyond in the great room. Color and texture comes from the furnishings and textiles, such as the printed curtains and shades in the bedrooms and the owners’ cheery collection of quilts.
On the exterior, a surprising color palette is in play: warm semi-transparent gray vertical siding for the body, clear cedar horizontal siding in the gables, ochre metal-clad windows with medium brown trim and red fascia tying together the mix of asphalt shingles and red metal that compose the roof. The result is a unique color mix that creates a custom, distinctive home with an inviting curb appeal.
